The Quirks of a New Bathroom…
The new bathroom is nearly done. All the fixtures are in place and I saved us some money by doing the sealing of the grout myself, but, how much is enough? I have sealed the grout three times around the sink and tub area and all the rest has been sealed two times. I swept the floor and then sanded the window frame which will get a new coat of bright white pain The creamy white paint will be history . I want to sand the walls this week and start painting them chinchilla grey. I think it should look awesome.
Our first quirk showed up as soon as I turned on the bathroom taps. The hot and cold pipes are switched. They were that way when the house was built and my husband forgot to tell the contractor about that so they will have to be changed. We cannot have little children burning their hands and wondering why the cold was so hot!!!! The next quirk showed up when I was cleaning the tub. As I turned on the new facet a slow stream started when a gusher used to be. Another question for the contractor. Life is like a new bathroom I think….you never know what to expect…even when it looks perfect…sometimes things happen. And then I am back to another question….how much sealant is enough?
Home Safely
I have been praying for two world travelers of late. One went to China for three weeks and one went to India and Rome for 3 weeks. How thankful I am that both are home safely. In this day and age, air travel is a common thing. People fly all the time. Some fly for work constantly. Others are taking vacations. But every time I fly or a loved one flies, it gives me opportunity to once again place my life in the Lord’s capable hands.
The way I look at is this. I belong to the Lord, and I am his child. If He is finished with me…or if my job here on earth is complete, He may chose to take me to heaven at any time. If I am on the plane or in a car or wherever. If however, He is not finished with me than all the people on the plane are safe because God will keep that plane in the air.
Some may think this is arrogant, but it really is just practical. I am still always glad when loved ones get back safely on our shores. The world is an uncertain place and bad things happen to good people. But I will continue to trust the Lord and His wisdom and goodness. I am thankful he kept these two people safe and they are home. This is not a news flash, this is my reality.
From Scratch!
Today I pulled out the old red Purity Cookbook that was my mothers. I found a chocolate cake recipe that I could make from scratch because I did not have a cake mix in the house that I could use to make a cake for my sister’s birthday.
I found the best recipe that would allow me to use up some buttermilk and began hauling out bowls and sifter and more bowls. I need four or five bowls to mix up the cake and the dry ingredients needed to be sifted 2 or 3 times. I didn’t so something correctly because it didn’t look mixed well on the inside. I am not sure what went wrong. It tasted great. I sifted powdered sugar over the top, put a dollop of ice cream on the side and drizzled strawberries over it. Festive and delicious but next time I will drive to the store and buy a cake mix. It was a lot of work.
It was a walk down memory lane using my mom’s old cookbook. It is a treasure. The cake isn’t classed in the same category as treasure however but everyone ate it and liked it. This is not a news flash…this is my reality.
